Why send cold email from a separate domain?

Last updated

A separate sending domain protects your main domain's reputation. Mailbox providers like Gmail and Yahoo judge senders partly by domain reputation and spam complaints. If cold outreach draws complaints, a lookalike domain takes the hit instead of the domain your invoices, client email and website depend on. Each sending domain still needs SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

How we do it

  • Lookalike domains (for example, try-yourbrand.com) that redirect to your real site.
  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up on each one.
  • About 14–21 days of warm-up before full sending.
  • A small number of mailboxes per domain, at modest daily volumes.
  • Open and click tracking off.

FunnelIQ's own cold email follows the same rule: it never comes from getfunneliq.com.
